{"id":54543,"date":"2024-05-14T12:57:31","date_gmt":"2024-05-14T10:57:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/zulu.org.za\/travel\/?p=54543"},"modified":"2024-05-14T12:57:31","modified_gmt":"2024-05-14T10:57:31","slug":"kzn-abounds-with-investment-opportunities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/visitkzn-sa.com\/travel\/kzn-abounds-with-investment-opportunities\/","title":{"rendered":"KZN ABOUNDS WITH INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES"},"content":{"rendered":"Tourism investment opportunities worth at least R9.4-billion with the potential to create\r\nover 3000 temporary jobs during construction and over 3000 permanent jobs were\r\nrevealed during the keynote address that was delivered on behalf of MEC for\r\nEconomic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA), Mr Siboniso\r\nDuma, by MEC for Health, Ms Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu, at a breakfast hosted by\r\nTourism KwaZulu-Natal at the Africa Travel Indaba this morning. <br><br>\r\nMs Simelane-Zulu referred to a portfolio of 15 catalytic projects across the province\r\nthat would vastly improve the tourism potential of the province. <br><br>\r\nThese projects &#8211; along with other private developments such as the Club Med resort\r\nto be built at Tinley Manor on the provinces North Coast, the Babanango Game\r\nReserve, the Westown development at Shongweni and a new Ernie Else golf course\r\nat Zimbali Lakes, among others \u2013 indicated that private sector investors had\r\nconsiderable confidence in the province, she said. <br><br>\r\nThe MEC noted that eight of the catalytic projects would be private sector-led and\r\nwere mainly brown and greenfield developments.<br><br>\r\nAnother four projects are part of Ezemvelo KwaZulu-Natal Wildlife\u2019s commercialisation\r\nstrategy which requires private sector investment partners to develop operate and\r\nmanage these on a 15\u201320-year Public-Private-Partnership concession. <br><br>\r\nThis will enrich and expand Ezemvelo\u2019s ecotourism products to meet the ever-growing\r\nhunger for unique eco-tourism experiences whilst enabling the entity to focus on its\r\nimportant conservation mandate.<br><br>\r\n\u201c The KwaZulu-Natal North Coast is an enviable strip of coastline stretching from the\r\nTongaat River at Zimbali all the way to Kosi Bay. Here we have another four projects\r\nin one of our greatest tourism assets, the Isimangaliso Wetland Park. We are looking\r\nfor private sector investment partners to develop, operate and manage government\r\nassets within this very special World Heritage Site,\u201d the MEC said.<br><br>\r\nThe MEC added that, because investment is for the bold and brave and the province\r\nneeded to not only be easy to visit but easy to do business in, the feasibility studies,\r\ndesign developments and business plans have been completed for each of these\r\nprojects. The land has been secured and they have the support of the relevant\r\nmunicipalities. <br><br>\r\nPresenting at the breakfast, Mr Olivier Perillat, General Manager Club Med SA, said\r\nthe R2-billion Club Med resort project which is due to open in July 2026, would be a\r\nforce for regional growth. The 32-hectare beach resort and 30 000 hectare Big 5 Bush\r\nLodge in northern Zululand are expected to create 800 direct jobs, 1 500 indirect jobs\r\nand 1 200 construction jobs.<br><br>\r\nDr. Andrew Baxter, the chief operating officer at Africa Habitat Conservancy and its\r\nsubsidiary Babanango Game Reserve, a groundbreaking rewilding and conservation\r\nproject that has set a precedent for community ownership for a Big 5 resort, said the\r\nrecently completed investment project had created 220 jobs of which more than 75%\r\nwere drawn from the local community. Babanango is now the largest employer in the\r\ndistrict municipality.<br><br> \r\nMr Carlos Correia, CEO of Fundamentum Property Group (Fundamentum), which is\r\nbehind the mega Westown development at Shongweni, said that this 20-year project\r\nwould bring significant socio-economic value to the Outer West region of eThekweni,\r\nwith the first phase of the project due to open in March 2025. He said the municipality\r\nhad already invested R600-million in bulk infrastructure for this project which is\r\nestimated to generate some R15 billion in investment over the next 10 to 15 years with over\r\nR3,5bn already committed and being invested.<br><br>\r\nMs Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu said that TKZN was especially pleased to welcome 26\r\nAfrican countries which will showcase Africa\u2019s best tourism products.
